Underground Ammunition Storage: Model Test to Investigate the Strength and Effectiveness of a Selfclosing Concrete Block. Test IV,

Abstract

This is the 4th test in a series of model tests scale 1 : 50 examining the strength and effectiveness of a movable concrete block used in underground ammunition storages to reduce the effects of an accidental explosion in the storage. Measurements have been made in the detonation chamber, in the tunnel system and for the first time in this series in the terrain outside the installation. Reduction of the area within the 50 mbar isobar with movable block compared to block locked in open position is calculated. Reduction of the isoimpuls area is also calculated. New informations about the strength of the concrete blocks are found, that are a volume dependence of the damage of the blocks and not only loading density dependence as thought before.
