Rolamite Rolling-Gate Valves,

Abstract

A manually operated rolamite valve was evaluated. Although it worked well, it was discovered that it is much simpler to use a pilot to control the rolamite motion fluidically. Depending on the arrangement of the pilot, the rolamite valve could be operated as a pressure regulator, back-pressure regulator, flow controller, or remote-control valve. With floating rollers, the rolamite valve also worked as a steam trap. Rolling-gate valves, using high-strength porous material to support the gate and quietly throttle the fluid, have many advantages. The use of a rolamite appears to be an excellent means for constructing a rolling-gate valve. (Author)
