ORTHOL: A 2d Explicit Grid Orthogonalizer for Pseudo-Lagrangian Codes.

Abstract

A simple second order procedure is given for orthogonalizing a 2-D mesh which has been distorted by Lagrangian transport from an initially orthogonal configuration. One system of grid lines is customarily chosen to follow contours of a relevant physical quantity, while the second set of grid lines must be constructed orthogonal to the first set. This method has been found useful in the computation of MHD flows in self-consistent B-fields, and application to other fluid problems is obvious. As an example of the orthogonalizing procedure, the axisymmetric problem of an imposed azimuthal electric field driving a magnetic flux grid is considered. (Author)
