Continuous Update Memory Display.

Abstract

The study was aimed toward developing a version of the direct view storage tube which allows its storage surface to be continuously updated by the writing electron gun. The approach used was to determine the electron-optic field conditions near the storage mesh required for the equilibrium writing process. A mathematical model of the region in the vicinity of the storage mesh was parametrically analyzed with the aid of a computer, and the theoretical characteristic operating curves were obtained. Based upon the findings of this analysis, an electrostatically-deflected WX-30533 and a modified, magnetically deflected WX-31411 (designated the WDX-232), were operated in the equilibrium writing mode successfully, validating the theoretical model used. The writing gun cathode potential was used as the equilibrium electrode. (Modified author abstract)
