Holo-Scanner Technique for Wideband Recording.
Abstract
The report describes the analysis, experimental development, and test of the new HoloFacet (TM) scanning technique for high speed optical scanning and recording of 100 lp/mm at 100 MHz on a high resolution photographic film. The HoloFacet scanning technique employs the rotation of a HoloFacet within a coherent optical field, such that the resulting diffracted waves are scanned across a film surface as a succession of rapidly moving focal points. The HoloFacets are applied by well-developed holographic means to a surface which reduces the optical perturbation of the high speed system. The report also describes the transformation of the 'brassboard' holographic scanner into a recorder, for the purpose of yielding an output on a strip of photographic film permitting the analysis of the characteristics of wideband holograph recording, such as focusing accuracy, and tolerances. A 100 lp/mm was recorded on Type 3414 film at 33% MTF with a video bandwidth of 100 MHz and a canner speed of 52,000 rpm. (Modified author abstract)
