On the Form of the Likelihood Ratio for Two-Dimensional Random Fields.

Abstract

It is shown that the likelihood ratio detector of a random signal in white Gaussian noise, when both the signal and the noise are two-dimensional random fields, cannot be realized by an estimator matched-filter combination unless the signal is deterministic. This was conjectured in a recent paper where a recursive formula was derived for the likelihood ratio. (Author)
