The Use of Regression Analysis to Estimate the Reference Functions of Aircraft Maintenance Managers.

Abstract

The thesis presents the results of a designed experiment in which the judgmental processes of Air Force maintenance managers were estimated using multiple regression analysis. The experiment consisted of 36 evaluations of hypothetical maintenance organizations by three middle managers. Each organization was described by a different combination of selected levels of four common performance indicators. The results of the experiment indicate that there is no uniform weighting policy among managers when evaluating the performance of maintenance organizations. The linear models were able to explicitly represent the judgmental process of each manager, although in differing degrees. Based on the outcome of the experiment, the authors conclude that linear models derived from multiple regression analysis can be useful tools in maintenance management. (Author)
