Integration of Safety, Security Police, Fire Protection and Disaster Preparedness into a Single Protective Services Organization.

Abstract

The successful concept of integration employed by civilian municipalities in combining police and fire operations has been expanded by the authors to include safety and disaster preparedness as applies to the 2750th Air Base Wing located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio. An extensive review was made of Headquarters (HQ) USAF, Hq AFLC and WPAFB directives to identify mission duties and responsibilities for the four protective type functional areas--safety, security police, fire protection and disaster preparedness. The authors conclude that the creation of a Protective Services organization under a single manager concept is feasible and recommend it be tested for a one year period. (Modified author abstract)
