SAC Officers' Open Messes and Financial Self-Sufficiency.

Abstract

The study examined how the elements common to selected Strategic Command officers' open messes affect financial self-sufficiency. The major club activities sponsored by each club were identified. Profitgraphs and break-even analysis techniques were used to estimate the relationship between common elements. The immediate and potential future impact of the recent partial diversion of package store net earnings from the open messes to the Central Base Fund was evaluated. The effect of the 1974 Fair Labor Standards Act and the competitive advantages which some civilian restaurants and bars enjoy in comparison to open messes were examined. (Modified author abstract)
