Barrier Potential of Chain Link Fence.
Abstract
This report covers a series of experiments designed to evaluate the barrier potential of chain link fence topped with various entanglement materials. The report includes that: (1) Chain link fence toppings supported by brackets, such as three or six strands of barbed wire or barbed wire concertina, reduce the effectiveness of the fence, because the brackets serve as breaching aids, which assist in the crossing procedure. (2) Horizontal top rails stabilize the chain link mesh to the point where they reduce the fence effectiveness. (3) General-purpose barbed tape chain link fence topping provides complete protection against unaided attempts by personnel to cross chain link fences. (Author)
