Evaluation of the Adhesive Bonding Processes Used in Helicopter Manufacture. Part 7. Preproduction Evaluation of Improved Titanium Surfaces Preparation

Abstract

This report is an evaluation of various parameters in the phosphate- fluoride treatment (stabilized) for surface prep- aration of titanium preparatory to adhesive bonding. The process was compared to the standard phosphate-fluoride treat-ment. The stabilized process was found to provide an improvement in the durability of adhesive- bonded joints exposed to moisture and stress. This process was developed by R.F. Wegman at Picatinny Arsenal.
