20 PPS Holmium: Yttrium Lithium Fluoride Laser Transmitter,

Abstract

Holmium-doped yttrium lithium fluoride (Ho:YLF), emitting at 2.06 micrometers, is a promising material for laser target designators. In the following sections, the design and construction of a 20 pps 2 micrometer designator transmitter is presented. In the following, the systems specifications of the 1.06 micrometer lightweight designator, presently undergoing engineering development, are accepted as the relevant baseline for a 2 micrometer device. The salient features of the 1.06 micrometer device are: 100 mJ output, 20 ns pulse length, 10-20 pps, 0.2 mrad beam divergence, and 12 lb total weight.
