Bolinas Lagoon Inlet, California.

Abstract

The hydraulic and sedimentary characteristics of tidal inlets on sandy coasts have long been of interest to engineers involved in harbor design and maintenance. O'Brien (1931), in a study of west coast inlets, proposed a relationship between the minimum inlet area below mean sea level and the tidal prism. The Bolinas Bay-Bolinas Lagoon system is a natural laboratory in which a large amount of data has been compiled on hydrography, wave action, tidal hydraulics, sediment transport and sedimentation, and the ecosystem.
