Blast-Resistant Mine Clearing Wheels (Cast Steel).

Abstract

The work was designed to permit evaluation and comparison of prototype mine clearing wheels based on several variables: design of wheel shape; composition and properties of five steels; and comparison of steel castings with steel forgings produced under a separate contract. The work discussed in this report refers only to cast steels. Details of all phases of production and testing as contracted are presented, including: pattern design, molding materials and technique, melting procedure, cleaning, quality assurance programs, heat treating and mechanical testing as required.
