Study of the Diffusion of Antimony in Bismuth Telluride Single Crystals as a Function of the Composition,
Abstract
Single crystals of bismuth telluride were prepared, and antimony was applied onto their surfaces by vacuum deposition. After homogenizing, the depth of penetration of the antimony into the crystals was determined by the changes in the thermo-emf along the diffusion path. The coefficient of diffusion of antimony was greatest for nearly stoichiometric compositions. The diffusion of antimony in two mutually perpendicular directions with respect to the basal plane had a considerable anisotropy, the magnitude of which was greatest in the p-type specimens.
