Oceanographic Summary of the Barents Sea South of Bear Island in the Summer.

Abstract

Using published articles, data reports and other historical data, a brief summary of the oceanography of the region between Bear Island and Norway is presented. The main feature of this area is a frontal region formed where the warm Atlantic water and cold Polar water meet; steep temperature, salinity and sound speed gradients occur in this region. The position of the front can vary by about 30 nautical miles from year to year. (Author)
