Clinical and Experimental Investigations into Allergic Diseases in Domestic Animals: The Role of Nutritive Allergies in Some Digestive and Skin Diseases of Some Carniverous Animals,

Abstract

The allergic condition caused in dogs by food allergens occurs in three forms, i.e. in the gastrointestinal, skin (dermatologic), and combined forms. In the first case there are functional and anatomic disturbances in the gastrointestinal region, spastic conditions and catarrhal phenomena to hemorrhagic inflammations. In the second case urticaria and polymorphous dry eczema of typical location with itching of varying degrees is involved. The largest percentage of positive skin reactions falls under the grouped meat allergens (group II meats: 61%, group I meats: 48%), milk (53%), bacterial vaccines (6%). Out of the individual allergens 27% reacted to horse meat, 24% to beef, 22% to chicken, 18% to pork, 14% to veal, 13% to mutton, 6% to Cacao, 4% to eggs, and 2% to potatoes from the total number of animals tested.
