An Application of Infrared Remote Sensing Techniques to Ecological Problems.

Abstract

The report and compendium of aerial infrared imagery was extracted from an R and D laboratory test of an Air Force infrared scanner. The purpose of the R and D test was to demonstrate the ability of one Air Force scanner to display thermal differentials found in a ground scene. The flight test area included a series of waterways and contiguous shorelines which illustrate ecological thermal phenomena. Specific examples of imagery were extracted from the R and D test program data for inclusion in this report. A summary of pertinent infrared technology is presented which relates sensor performance to atmospheric conditions, target and background characteristics, as well as image information content. In addition, brief photographic interpretation comments are included for each infrared image. (Author)
