A Primer in Strategic Command and Control Communications.

Abstract

This document is intended as a first look at Strategic Command and Control Communications (SC3). It attempts to answer the questions which arise quickly for the engineer newly charged with investigations in this area. Thus, Chapter I introduces the missions of strategic communications and suggests the complexities of the SC3 network. Chapter II covers communication systems and propagation phenomena. Chapter III discusses nuclear effects as related to communications. The last three chapters are more technical and require a previous foundation if they are to be meaningful. Probability Theory, Network Theory, and Modeling Concepts are covered in this section. Finally, two appendices include an extensive glossary of acronyms and a set of charts which collectively describe the macro-aspects of the SC3 network. (Author)
