High Power Dye Lasers

Abstract

The report describes modifications made to the previously reported high power dye laser to allow for increased power handling capability, repetition rate and operating times. Present problems are primarily involved with dye circulation and heat dissipation and the solution to these should lead to powers output from the dye laser that are well in excess of the presently available level of 41 watts. Sections cover the following: Design and testing of new flashlamps; Theory of power distribution in flashlamp; Rotary spark gap; Ray tracing program; and Dye flow system and laser power measurements.
