Laboratory Tests for the Development of Standards and Test Procedures for the Evaluation of Flame Arresters Used in the Backfire Flame Control on Internal Combustion Engines,

Abstract

This report summarizes the results of laboratory tests to determine if a relationship exists between the explosion characteristics of a gasoline combustion engine backfire, and the pressure pulse parameters obtained in a standard propane/air explosion test chamber used to evaluate carburetor flame arresters; and to develop a set of detailed procedures for the test and evaluation of carburetor flame arrester assemblies.
