First World Congress on Intensive Care

Abstract

The First World Congress on Intensive Care took place at Imperial College, London on the 24th-27th of June 1974. Major symposia, seminars and colloquia were held on intensive care, monitoring shock, trauma and resuscitation, metabolism and nutrition, and respiratory failure. Other topics receiving particular attention included brain death, pediatrics, respiratory medicine, infection, complications of endotracheal intubation, gastroenterology, poisoning, tissue hyposia, pharmacology, renal medicine and myocradial infarction. An entire day and one section was completely given over to the computer scientists. Highlights of the Congress are summarized.
