Abstract

The objective of the report is to briefly survey and analyze the current state of technology and to determine areas where research and development can provide improved means for protection of the environment from oil pollution. The areas of research pertinent to this problem are: Preventing accidents that will affect the environment; limiting effects to the environment in the event of an accident; and restoring the environment. The areas covered include prevention of accidents and avoidance; limiting effects in the event of an accident; restoration of the environment; literature survey; evaluation of the literature; recommendations for research and development; and liability and legal considerations.
