Abstract

The Regression Estimation of Event Probabilities (REEP) technique was used for predicting the duration of the largest short-wave fadeout expected to occur tomorrow from information available today. A computer program was developed and adapted to the Air Force Global Weather Central computers to estimate (a sub p) values, in real-time, rapidly from observations made at four stations given that the observations are missing sporadically and randomly. Feasibility of using REEP to investigate the f0F2 behavior during a geomagnetic storm was studied. Regression equations were developed for predicting the 2-12A X-ray flux tomorrow given a series of relevant parameters today.
