Setting Up of Ice Breaker Test Program for the U.S. Coast Guard,

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to obtain experimental data on the icebreaking ability of various hull shapes with the object being the optimization of icebreaker design. The data can be used to verify or modify the equation of VINOGRADOV or to develop a more accurate equation for icebreaker effectiveness. The equation must facilitate the extrapolation of model results to ship use.
