Study of Plasma Sheaths.

Abstract

A theoretical model of a thermionic gas diode with ion injection through the anode was developed. Charged particle currents due to the electric field as well as due to charged particle density gradients were incorporated in the model. This made it possible to study the effect of ion injection on the magnitude and location of the potential barrier in front of the hot cathode. The model was solved numerically for various experimental conditions. The results obtained explained the previously observed large space charge neutralization efficiencies of the injected ions.
