Filament Wound 67 Gallon Tank for AQM-34M Aircraft.

Abstract

This report contains a discussion of the successful results of wound, glass- reinforced-plastic wing tanks with rotationally-cast liners. The tanks with Celcon (acetal copolymer) liners and structural and environmental testing conditions except for minor leakage at the fill cap and fluid sensor penetrations. The process of using rotationally-cast liners of fuel resistant thermoplastics and filament winding shows great promise as a means of reducing the cost of filament wound tanks. The best fuel resistant thermoplastics, acetal, nylon and cross-linked polyethylene are also discussed in connection with the fabrica-tion of fuel tankage shapes. (Author, modified-PL)
