Miniature Thermal Bar Torch (MTBT/Minitorch).

Abstract

This test was conducted to investigate the military potential of the miniature thermal bar torch (MTBT/minitorch). An assessment was made of the effectiveness of the MTBT to perform various cutting operations in the field. The MTBT effectively cut or penetrated all target materials presented. These included the aluminum alloy armor of an M113 armored personnel carrier and concrete. When compared with the standard Army oxyacetylene torch, the MTBT demonstrated a faster cutting rate on all materials. (Modified author abstract)
