Pressure-Time Characteristics of the 20MM M56A3 Ammunition.

Abstract

Component failures in 20MM M56A3 projectiles revealed a need for re-evaluation of calculated stress values and analytical procedures used to obTAIN THIS DATA. The study reported here was conducted to provide an experimental data base for the recommended rigorous stress analysis. Statistically significant samples of chamber pressure-time records (piezoelectric) and peak pressures (copper crushers) were obtained for both reference and production ammunition over the extreme temperature range of -70F to +160F.
