Optical Pumps for Holmium Lasers.

Abstract

The objective of this program was to increase the efficiency of optical pumps for low energy holmium lasers. The characteristics of the final lamps, modulator circuitry and cavity are given. Also are recommendations for future lamps, cavity and modulator, based upon data taken during this program. Efficiency improvements were achieved by optimizing the bore diameter, fill pressure, gas composition, envelope wall material, pulse length and starting method. Active filters, Ho:YLF materials of differing composition, and various cavity configurations were also investigated.
