Installation of a Rectangular Test Section for Acoustic Water Tunnel Studies of Flow-Induced Noise,

Abstract

A second leg was added to an existing pump driven, continuous flow, closed loop acoustic water tunnel to provide a capability for measuring flow-induced noise effects and the effects of surface roughness, protuberances, depressions, and pressure gradients on turbulent boundary layer wall-pressure fluctuations. The leg consists of a rectangular test section 4 inches high at the entrance and 4.5 inches high at the exit, with a constant width of 12 inches over a length of 90 inches. The report describes the design and construction of the new section and related components and the results of hydrodynamic and acoustic measurements. (Modified author abstract)
