Abstract

The issues explored in this paper are: (a) The extent to which black and white wives have different labor force responses to specified variables; (b) the extent to which the difference in the labor force participation of black and white wives may be explained by the differences in family and personal characteristics, as opposed to different responses to given characteristics; and (c) the factors underlying the differences in response.
