Computer Software for Numerically Controlled Manufacturing.

Abstract

A survey of computer programs used to prepare control tapes for numerically controlled (NC) machine tools in the Department of Defense identified 221 software postprocessors now being used for over 465 NC Machines. A study of the input languages required by various postprocessors revealed many inconsistencies which prevent a part program from being used on more than one machine without modification. This project develops a methodology that enables part program information to be quickly and easily shifted among different NC machines and even among different DOD activities.
