Irradiation Effects on Reactor Structural Materials.

Abstract

The research program of the NRL Metallurgy Division, Reactor Materials Branch, involves a broad study of the effects of nuclear radiation upon materials. The report includes: (1) status and recent observations of AEC-CE-NRL cooperative program on improved (radiation resistant) A533-B steel plates and weldments; (2) strength and notch ductility of selected structural alloys after high fluence, 550F irradiation; (3) toughness of irradiated Type 316 weld metal using the J-Integral, (4) microstructure and swelling of EBR-II control rod thimble material; (5) the dose dependence of nickel ion damage in nickel; (6) studies of the mobility of helium in 316 stainless steel and aluminum, and (7) evaluation of tensile specimens from surveillance capsules of MH-1A reactor.
