Economic and GeographicProblems of Northern Technology,

Abstract

Problems experienced in developing the northern regions of the USSR are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the materials used in building machines for the north, with emphasis being placed on effects of cold temperatures on brittle breakage of steel parts in dredges, tractors, trucks and other mining and construction equipment. Transportation networks in the north were examined, with all-terrain vehicles and hovercraft included as appropriate for the conditions.
