Standardization of Protective Mining Helmets,

Abstract

USSR Code requirements for standardization in design of mining helmets are discussed. Standards of procedure for selection and types of hygienic-sanitary tests are reviewed and criticized, as they have allowed production of inadequate helmets in the past. Inadequacies in the helmets themselves are then critized, with the aim of revising the Code to provide for lighter weight yet structurally adequate helmets. Technical features of various helmets (including Western models) are presented in a table.
