Relative Efficiency of VARIOUS Estimates in the Monte-Carlo Method,

Abstract

General formulas are obtained for the variance of several estimates used in the solution of radiation transfer problems by the Monte-Carlo method. One-velocity approximation formulas are also obtained, enabling one to estimate the error in the calculation of the flux by the various estimates. Graphs are presented which enable one to compare estimates and to choose the optimal estimate in each particular case.
