Improving the Quality and Variety of Rolled Metal,

Abstract

The excerpts translated from a book on improving the quality and variety of rolled metals include the provisions of the current five-year plan for ferrous metallurgy. They encompass new production methods for improved quality and variety, new construction and research. The new refining methods discussed are electro-slag, electron beam, plasma-arc, vacuum arc. Comparisons of metals produced by these methods are made with each other and with ordinary refining methods. The last section covers the basic trends in standardization of metal production.
