Studies in Pulmonary Physiology. Volume IV. Mechanics, Chemistry, and Circulation of the Lung.

Abstract

The thirty-seven scientific papers compiled in this report on pulmonary physiology are organized under the following sections: Positive Pressure and the Motor Control of Respiratory Muscles; Alveolar Gas Exchange; Circulation and Gas Transport; Ventilation-Perfusion Relationships; Tissue O2 and CO2 Exchange; and Inert Gas Transport. This is part of a series of studies to develop a more thorough knowledge of the phenomena of alveolar and tissue gas exchange, pulmonary ventilation and perfusion inequalities, control of respiration, inert gas washout, and gas carriage by the circulation under various environmental conditions. The first section of this report is a brief summary of the investigations. (Author)
