Helicopters: A Review of Their Development.

Abstract

The monograph consists of three lectures. In the first, early developments of the helicopter are surveyed, including shortcomings and lessons learned. The second deals with rotor aerodynamics, noise, vibrations, instabilities, and design. Recent rotor concepts are discussed in the third, including the hingeless rotor with gyro, matched stiffness rotor, jet flap rotors, hot and warm cycles, lead lag rotor, slowed, stopped and stowed rotors, and rotor wing. The report deals also with the autogiro.
