Phase I Nonlinear Sonar Testbed.
Abstract
The facility is envisioned as a testbed for three basic categories of nonlinear acoustic experiments: (1) basic conceptual experiments using existing or easily assembled transducers, (2) tests of existing Naval hardware to determine the feasibility of incorporating nonlinear modes into normally linear systems, and (3) tests of prototype hardware being developed for Naval applications. This final report describes the completed Phase I instrumentation for the nonlinear sonar testbed. The equipment includes two 40 W drivers, two 4 kW power amplifiers (transmitters), two 15 kW power amplifiers, two signal generator channels, one receiver system with preamplifiers, filters, storage oscilloscope, sampling digital voltmeter, and tone burst-timing generator gates; all are shown in block diagrams and photographs.
