Alternative SIM (Selected Item Management) Criteria,

Abstract

The study evaluates alternative SIM (Selected Item Management) criteria using historical demand data and a computer simulation model. These alternative criteria are evaluated in terms of their effects on (1) gross requisition effectiveness, (2) investment requirements, (3) the volatility of the SIM Battery, and (4) number of resupply orders (workload). The objective of the study was to develop standard SIM Criteria which could be adopted fleet wide. Historical demand data were taken from five different types of ships -- a DLG, DDG, SSN, LPD, and an AOR. Results of this study show that several alternative criteria reduce dollar investment, volatility, and workload with minimal loss in effectiveness. (Modified author abstract)
