Candlepower Measurements of C-2R and C-2V Filaments in a Directional Drum Lens,

Abstract

Lamps customarily used in 200MM drum lenses are of the C-8 type which has a straight coiled filament. This filament has also been used in hot spot or directional drum lenses. It was believed that the assymmetry of illumination from electric filaments of the C-2R and C-2V types (roughly V shaped coils) would permit more efficient use of the luminous output of the filaments, when used in a directional drum lens. The tests conducted under this project show that the efficiency of operation of a 200MM Corning directional drum lens measured in terms of the beam candlepower per watt of electrical power input definitely indicates that the C-8 filament provides a more efficient illumination pattern than either the C-2R or C-2V type filaments.
