Test of Four 16 Foot Plastic Dinghies,

Abstract

Several design changes were made on the 16 foot plastic dinghy as a means of reducing the weight, strengthening the thwart to hull attachment and reducing the cost of the boats. Various tests were made to evaluate these changes. The procedure was to measure keel and gunwale deflections on three boats by adding weights in fifty pound increments up to 500 pounds. To evaluate effectiveness of gunwale and thwart attachment drop tests were conducted on four boats and impact tests on two boats.
