Dynamic Mechanical and Dielectric Relaxations in Blends of Homopolymers and Block Copolymers.

Abstract

The relaxation behavior of two series of blends of homopolymers with block copolymers were investigated. The first series are blends of poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) with poly (styrene-b-ethylene-co-butylene-b-styrene). The second series are poly(ethylene oxide) blended with poly(ethylene oxide-b-propylene oxide-b-ethylene oxide). Samples were prepared by casting from appropriate solvents. Dynamic mechanical and dielectric measurements were carried out between -150C and 100C. For both series, the loss peaks observed were attributable to molecular motions of the homopolymer segments. No intermediate transitions, such as those observed previously in polyblends of polybutadiene with poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene), can be seen in these two systems. (Author)
