Comparative Operational Tests of Various Types of 40 Foot Utility Boats including Specific Test Data on 40 Foot Plastic Type.

Abstract

The report covers rough water operational tests conducted under identical conditions on three types of 40 foot utility boats. All boats were of the same general design but constructed of three different materials: plastic, plywood, and steel. In appraising the performance of the boats every attempt has been made to base the evaluations on the instrument data and documentary films and thus preclude, as far as possible, personal opinions. Inasmuch as the plastic boat undergoing test had not been previously checked for speed, fuel consumption and certain engine data, this information has been included in this report as appendix A.
