Control of Evaporator Scale.

Abstract

Information relating to the formation and control of scale in sea water evaporators has been gathered from the published literature and from the files of various governmental agencies and evaporator manufacturers. This material has been compiled as a general survey of the factors affecting the production of fresh water from sea water. The study indicates that experimental study should be made of conditions under which components of the sea water precipitate as scale, the effect of circulation and temperature on scale formation, the use of chemical and electrolytic agents to prevent or control scale formation, and the influence of evaporator design and operating technique on evaporator performance and scale deposition. An extensive bibliography is included. (Author)
