Sea Water Evaporator Scale.

Abstract

The report is devoted to extending earlier data concerning the decarbonation of sea water by heat and aeration. The particle dimensions of the by-product magnesium hydroxide precipitate are given. Rate curves are shown correlating distillation methods and reflux methods with aeration subsequent to heating and aeration during heating. Approximately 85% of its total carbon dioxide content can be removed from sea water by physical means. Analytical methods are described and the probable mechanisms of the reaction is suggested. Conclusions include recommendations for the preliminary design of a large scale unit for further experimental work. (Modified author abstract)
