Development and Evaluation of Polyurethane Loose Fill Cushioning Material.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to provide a polyurethane loosefill cushioning material suitable for the protection of lightweight, fragile items and to determine if polyurethane sheet stock materials can be reused in a loosefill form. Two densities of polyurethane (ether type) were investigated for possible use as loosefill materials. Completed pack performance data in the form of Peak 'G' versus Static Stress curves and Vibration Settling versus Static Stress curves were developed. Performance results indicated that polyurethane materials can be used in a loosefill form for protection of lightweight (low static stress) items. (Author)
