The Use of Crocco Type Variables in the Solution of Boundary Layer Problems.

Abstract

The use of Crocco type variables for calculating laminar, transitional, and turbulent boundary layer flows has been investigated. It is shown that they possess some advantages (as well as disadvantages) over Levy-Lees variables. Although the development of numerical methods for solving the boundary layer equations for even three dimensional compressible flows has reached the point where numerical techniques are well developed and accurate numerical solutions can be obtained from a variety of existing techniques, many problems still exist in doing these calculations, most of which are not numerical in nature. There is a need to develop more appropriate dependent and independent variables in order to make the numerical scheme as fast as possible. (Modified author abstract)
